Il s’agit du portrait d’un ami de longue date de l’artiste dénommé Frank, à l’entrée du pub Morden Arms à Greenwich où ils se sont rencontrés. Ray Richardson ajoute à propos du tableau : "Je voulais donner une idée d’un grand homme avec un grand esprit sur une échelle relativement réduite".
The BP Portrait Award showcases the very best in contemporary portrait painting from around the world in a variety of styles and approaches. The 2012 edition features fifty-five works, including "AKA Irish Frank" by Ray Richardson.
It is the portrait of the artist’s long-standing friend Frank. The setting is the doorway of the Morden Arms pub in Greenwich, where the two men first met. Ray Richardson says about his painting: "I wanted to give a sense of a big man with a big spirit on a relatively quiet scale".
